Due to record-high unemployment rates, rising oil prices, and concern for the environment, many
people are turning to “green collar†jobs. The Women’s Bureau of the U.S. Department of Labor defines
green jobs as “jobs that restore, protect, or conserve the natural environment.†Green jobs exist in nearly
every sector of the economy, from solar engineering to non-profit outreach, and these positions employ
individuals from a wide range of backgrounds. Regardless of your major, it is possible to work towards a
job that will combine your training and skills with your interest in environmental conservation and
sustainability.
To facilitate student interest in “green careers,” SENS Labor Student Laura Howard (class of 2012) compiled a Green Jobs Guide, available at the link below, to serve as a jumping off point for exploring the sustainable job market.
